BCCI Secretary Jay Shah expressed immense pleasure in welcoming Gambhir, stating that his “clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role.”
Gambhir, who played a pivotal role in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs, will now be tasked with steering the national team forward in the rapidly evolving modern game.

Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketing stalwart, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, replacing the outgoing Rahul Dravid.
Gambhir, who has previously served as a mentor for IPL franchises Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders, will take charge of the Indian team starting with the upcoming away series against Sri Lanka.
With his proven leadership skills and deep understanding of the game, Gambhir is poised to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor Rahul Dravid, who guided India to the T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. As the new head coach, Gambhir’s focus will be on developing a culture of excellence, discipline and teamwork, while also nurturing young talent and preparing the team for future challenges on the global stage.
